It's Good, It's Good
It's good it's good. Being light weight and small this edition is convenient. Plenty of useful information. The maps are accurate and comprehensive. Consulate information, and arrive/departure info. is good. The central area of Saigon is walkable and you can get some good exercise while seeing local street and shop life while admiring the nice archictecture. Some recent historical notes on what happened where in the city piques the interest. There are many listings in this LP edition for additional reading on Vietnam, and these books can be picked up here in the city, thanks to master copying abilities and black market. Changes are taking place here rapidly, but the communist government remains paranoid

Lord of the Valleys
Published in Paperback by Logos Associates (June, 1972)
Author: Florence Bulle
Average review score:

Centering on Jesus Christ
I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it for alot of reasons. First, the author centers her remarks and attention on the Lordship of Jesus Christ, not man's opinions or ideas. Her experiences are consistent with biblical truth and in no way does she veer from this. She uses the plumbline of God's word. I believe she is balanced in her beliefs about healing and suffering.

Mamma, Si Mangia? (Mama, Are We Eating?): A Florentine Son Shares His Feisty Mother's Recipes
Published in Paperback by Bright Sky Press (June, 2002)
Authors: Giampaolo Fallai, Loraine Page, and Anna Jurinich

Amazing Book - Fantastic Cookbook!!
Without a doubt this is one of the most wonderful cookbooks I have ever read. The stories of young Giampaolo Fallai and his mother that compliment each recipe are to-die-for funny! - On top of that the illustrations by Anna Jurininch are stunning and bring back a sense of an "old time story book" - The recipes are easy to follow and exciting to prepare - truly an original cookbook.

Better than Rand McNally
I love these people's maps, this is the 6th one I have used during travelling. They feature all of the stuff I usually get from the guidebooks I use to carry with me. A lot of local stuff and info.

The Marshal and the Murderer
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (December, 1987)
Author: Magdalen Nabb

The potters Tale
SoHo continue to delight by re-issuing Nabb's superlative Florentine novels ( although why they aren't being put out in chronological order defeats me ).

The story revolves around Guarnaccia's gradual unravelling of a decades old feud and it's tragic echo in the present.

As ever with Ms. Nabb the story is told with wit and compassion , there are no car chases ( there is a bus ride in the rain ), no shoot-outs ( in 20 years Guarnaccia's Beretta has remained firmly in it's holster ) and no lack of compellingly drawn believable characters.Yet again the atmosphere of Florence is brought out ( apparently ) efortlessly and adds enormously to the success of the book.

These are among the finest ctime novels to be written in the last 25 years.

The Melody Book: 300 Selections from the World of Music for Piano, Guitar, Autoharp, Recorder and Voice (3rd Edition)

This is a really outstanding collection of songs/melodies!!!
I am a Music Therapist working with different populations. I havebeen using the 1983 edition of The Melody Book and was delighted to find a new edition, incorporating old favorites and adding new ones. The songs/melodies are wonderful selections, all singable, in appropriate keys, and are of such wonderful variety! As I looked through this book time after time I thought, "THERE that song is! I've been looking and looking--and now I have found it!" I marvel at how much work must have gone into collecting these songs. The background notes are interesting and add to the enjoyment. Various movements/dances are in easy-to-follow format. As in the 1983 book, the index is also great! I wish I could afford to give this book to my music therapist friends. I will certainly recommend it!

Michelangelo's Florence Pieta
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (November, 2002)
Authors: Jack Wasserman and Aurelio Amendola
Average review score:

A Must-Have for Michelangelo fans
...or actually art fans in general. If you have even a passing interest in art, or Michelangelo, this book is a must.

For starters, it is an amazing book. The photography is beautiful (if you ever wanted to view this sculpture from every conceivable angle, this is your book!) and the essays are well-written and informative.

If that wasn't enough, we get treated to an amazing CD-ROM which details the "virtual" sculpture project. Its fascinating and a very well-put-together multimedia item.

I had the distinct fortune of seeing this sculpture with my own eyes, and while absolutely nothing can compare to seeing the original, this book comes very close.

Jack Wasserman and the staff from IBM Research have done a great service to this masterpiece. I'm sure Michelangelo would've approved. Here's hoping they apply this to other treasures from the art world.

Highly recommended.

Mother Nature's Garden: Healthy Vegan Cooking
Published in Paperback by Crossing Press (November, 1994)
Authors: Florence Bienenfeld and Mickey Bienenfeld
Average review score:

An outstanding book with a flair for flavor!
I have over fifty cookbooks and yet this is one I turn to most consistently. This cookbook is for everyone who believes that vegetarian cooking lacks flavor. The recipes all rely on whole, natural foods instead of canned or processed foods. The variety is outstanding and I have yet to make a dish that disappoints. The authors tend to build on a repertoire of sauces, fillings etc., so the ingredients you made for Sun. night dinner can also lend themselves to Wed. night dinner. The meals are easy, and most can be assembled quickly. Most importantly, the recipes allow your tastebuds to truly discern each ingredient and enjoy it for its contribution. Take a look at the authors' pictures on the back - these folks are very much senior citizens, yet, they are the epitome of health. Buy this cookbook, enjoy flavorful vegetarian food that will also contribute to your well-being.
